Security & Loss Prevention
Diploma Course
OVERVIEW
This programme is designed to equip participants with the theoretical base from which to leverage
informed solutions to a wide variety of loss prevention issues. This programme will focus on the
development of operational solutions that are informed by both the theory and practice of security
management. This programme is a prerequisite for persons interested in pursuing Industrial Security
Operations and Management – CVQ Level 3 Programmes. It is ideal for persons interested in careers in
Crime Prevention, Facilities Management, Security Management, Risk and Security Management and
Security Systems Design and Analysis.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This programme aims to:

To teach participants how to prevent losses due to crime and lawlessness through the development of crime prevention strategies.

To promote competence in the use of crime prevention tools to mitigate and reduce crime.
OUTLINE
Unit 1 – English Writing for Business.
Unit 2 – Fundamentals of Management.
Unit 3 – Security in Barbados and the Caribbean.
Unit 4 - Law & Legal Issue.
Unit 5 – Physical Security
(Level 1).
Unit 6 – Emergency Management (Level 1).
Unit 7 – Organizational Loss Prevention.
A choice of two electives from:
1. Terrorism Issues.
2. Cyber Crimes and other threats.
3. Electronic Security Integration.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment of the course is determined by course work which accounts for 40% of the overall grade. As well as the final examination which accounts for 60%.
PRE-REQUISITES

Certificate in Protective Security Services.

Three (3) years’ work experience.

CXC General English.
OR

Five (5) years’ work experience.

CXC General English.
INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH
This course will involve a mixture of lectures and discussions. To benefit fully, students’ participation in all aspects of the course is required.
