Diploma Course

OVERVIEW

This programme is designed to meet the needs of a dynamic Security Industry. It ne lays the foundation for advanced study in the discipline of Safety and Security and is is a prerequisite for persons interested in pursuing the Associate Degree Programme in Security and Loss Prevention, Industrial Security 

Operations and Management CVQ Level 3 programmes. The goal of this programme is to provide participants with theoretical knowledge, practical skills and attitudinal competencies to function in middle and senior level leadership roles in the safety and security industry. Participants of this programme will be guided through a variety of related academic subjects that are designed to develop technical knowledge, skills and administrative tools necessary to manage human resources and achieve the realization of set organization goals and objectives.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This programme aims to:

  • To equip administrators with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to function efficiently and effectively. 

  • To promote the knowledge and skills for holistic human resources evaluation and development. 

  • To promote effective security, management and leadership practices. 

  • To explore the causes of crime.

  • To develop workplace safety practices.

  • To ensure the management of crime scenes.

2. Security Management I.

3. Safety Engineering.

4. Criminal Law.

Stage 2 

1. Security Management II.

2. Police Science.

3. General Management.

4. Introduction to Criminology.

ASSESSMENT

 

Assessment of the course is determined by course work which accounts for 40% of the overall grade.  As well as the final examination which accounts for 60%.

 

PRE-REQUISITES

 

  1. CXC General English or English 101.



INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH

 

This course will involve a mixture of lectures and discussions.  To benefit fully, students’ participation in all aspects of the course is required.
