INTRODUCTION
This programme is designed to provide an introduction to Occupational Safety and Health to ensure the Safety and Health at work Act is upheld. The programme will seek to aid individuals in
understanding their roles in ensuring accurate safety principles and activities are communicated and practiced. This will be accomplished through the introduction of compliance procedures and avoidance techniques to prevent
safety and health hazards in the
workplace. These areas outlined will
provide individuals with a proactive
approach to fostering an environment conducive to accurate and efficient safety and health practices.
TARGET GROUP
With the introduction of Safety and
Health Committees into organizations, it is crucial that all employees are trained to ensure the Safety and Health at Work (Act) is maintained. This will provide
employees and employers with an
opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge base by providing tools to improve operations and procedures.

UNITS TO BE COVERED
In order to meet the standards for this qualification, individuals will need to demonstrate the ability to:

Carry out safety and health activities.

Contribute to reducing risks to safety and health.

Practice health, safety, security and hygiene.

Contribute to protecting the environment.
ASSESSMENT
Each unit will have Methods of Assessment which will include:

Observation reports by the Assessor.

Copies of written communications with customers.
-
Witness testimonies from Managers.
-
Case Histories and Personal Statement.

A professional discussion with your Assessor.
PRE-REQUISITES
Secondary School Education or
CXC English Grade 1, 2 or 3.
INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH
This course will involve a mix of
lectures, discussions and practical
exercises. To benefit fully, students’
participation in all aspects of the course is required.
