Caribbean Vocational Qualification

INTRODUCTION

This course was designed to equip students with the requisite practical skills and knowledge to operate efficiently and effectively in the Barbering industry. It also seeks to ensure students can act independently by providing entrepreneurial skills and practices allowing for private businesses to be established.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This programme aims to:

  • To provide the practical skills and knowledge to operate effectively as a Barber.

  • To equip students with entrepreneurial business skills and personal ethics to establish their own barbering services.

UNITS TO BE COVERED



In order to meet the standards for this qualification, individuals will need to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Perform interactive workplace communication.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and efficient work Environment.

  • Plan and organize work.

  • Carry out measurement, calculation and estimations.

  • Deliver quality service to customers Perform temporary hair colour services.

  • Craft personal entrepreneurial strategy.

  • Carry out data entry and retrieval procedures.

  • Prepare clients for salon service.

  • Perform hair shaping on excessively curly hair.

  • Receive and direct clients.

  • Schedule and check out clients.

  • Sell products and services.

  • Conduct financial transactions.

  • Perform stock control procedures.

  • Remove chemicals from hair.

  • Consult with clients and diagnose hair and scalp conditions.

  • Perform face shave.

  • Select and maintain tools and equipment.

EXAMINATION

 

Assessment of the course is determined by course work which accounts for 40% of the overall grade.  As well as the final written examination which accounts for 60%.

 

PRE-REQUISITES

 

  • English 101.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH

 

This course will involve a mix of lectures, discussions and presentations. To benefit fully, a student’s participation in all aspects of the course is required.

Students must:

  • Attend all lectures

  • Prepare for lectures

  • Contribute to all discussions
